In the event that routine work or academic functions are disrupted due to prolonged campus or building closures, you may find it necessary to work or teach a class from off campus. We provide a variety of services to connect you with colleagues and students remotely so that work and learning can continue uninterrupted.

  • From off campus, you can use TCWorkspace to access Banner 9 Admin Pages.
    Otherwise, you will need VPN to access Banner 9 Admin Pages.


TCWorkspace for Admin Pages
  • TC Workspace gives you access to a desktop and applications in a virtual environment. Use instead of VPN for AdminPages. From the portal, click on Home and then click on the TCWorkspace button.

VPN
  • VPN employees who have previously approved and configured VPN access will continue to connect to resources in the VPN profile.

  • Employees can contact the TouroOne Helpdesk to request VPN access. This process requires approval and configuration. This process is completed within five-days.

Using an internet browser, Log in to Office365, choose your Work or School Account and enter your Touro email address and password. You access Touro email and calendar access in Outlook on the browser.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, more
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint can be run within a browser without installing the applications on a device by visiting https://office.com

Employees are also entitled to download and install Microsoft applications to their personal devices by visiting https://office.com and continue to use the products while they are employed by Touro College and University System.

MiCollab Client SoftPhone
  • Software that allows you to use your computer, or other device as a phone to make calls using the internet.
  • First, go to help.touro.edu and submit an incident to request MiCollab Client SoftPhone.
  • Once your request has been processed, you will receive an invitation from noreply@mitel.easydeploy.net
  • Follow the instructions to install the mobile app to an Apple iOS or Android device. For additional assistance contact the TouroOne Helpdesk.

  • Documents and related learning activities should be organized logically, clearly named, and include instructions for students Simply uploading a PowerPoint presentation or document without expectation or guidance on how to use this information may confuse students; instead provide guiding questions on what students should look for in the presentation, doc, or reading as the review the information.

  • Assignments are an effective assessment tool that allow learners to show they have met learning objectives either by composing essays, creating infographics, or recording videos.

  • Discussions should be used for meaningful conversations among you and your students. Be sure to include explicit instructions for students to guide them on how to post, how much writing is expected, how many responses are expected, and when the posts are due. Best practices suggest that discussions work best when there is an early deadline for the initial post, and a later deadline for subsequent responses.

    Consider these questions as your design your discussion prompt:
    What am I trying to accomplish in this discussion?
    What should students be talking about?
    Am I promoting critical thinking skills in this activity?

  • Zoom video conferencing will allow you to have real-time, synchronous meetings with students using a simple link invitation. You can share a zoom link with students via email, announcements, or other communication method. You can request or activate a Zoom account if need be by contacting the Touro Helpdesk.

Pedagogical Implications
  • Recording your lectures is a great way to provide students with access to content. Similar to in-class lectures,screencasts (lecture-captures) should be engaging and provide for strategic breaks. Chucking the content information into short digestible (no more than 15 minutes is recommended) sessions is an effective way to help your student absorb and retain the content info.As you are recording keep in mind the objectives for the particular module or unit.

  • Quizzes are another useful tool to assess student learning. In online courses, using quizzes for self-checks or low-stakes type assessments is encouraged. If you are using the quizzes tool to give a higher stake assessment (e.g. mid-term or final) it is recommend that you implement some sort of testing security system such as ProctorU (live proctoring service) or Respondus LockDown browser.

  • Providing feedback is essential in an online course. Feedback helps students, and faculty, identify strengths and weaknesses of participants when considering course goals and objectives. In online courses you should provide students with feedback often by using rubrics, comments, and/or annotation tools available from SpeedGrader.
